New Materials – New Perspectives

Immediately after the closure of the Second Photopolymers Training School hosted by PCCL (Polymer Competence Center Leoben), the PhD students of Esperanto project will have the opportunity to participate in the 32nd Leoben Conference on Polymer Engineering and Science to be held on November 21st and 22nd, 2024, with the theme ‘New Materials – New Perspectives’. The planning and organization will be carried out jointly by the Department of Polymer Engineering and Science Leoben and the Polymer Competence Center Leoben.

The Program will cover a wide range of interesting topics and is aimed equally at participants from industry and academia. In four lecture sessions, topics will be dealt with that are trend-setting for many areas of polymer technology:

An additional highlight planned for the Plenary Session with invited presentations is a panel discussion on the topic of “Polymers in a World without Oil”, for which participants from business and politics will be invited.

This is also the fourth time that the Department of Polymer Engineering and Science Leoben, together with the Polymer Competence Center Leoben, is presenting the POLYMER SCIENCE SCHOOL AWARD. The presentation of successful spin-off companies, a poster session and the dinner on the evening of the first day round off the program of the 32nd Leoben Conference on Polymer Engineering and Science.

Ecofuturo Festival is a major event dedicated to eco-technologies and sustainable lifestyles, held every year in Rome. On May 9th Roberta Bongiovanni, coordinator of Esperanto Project and professor at DiSAT Dipartimento di Scienza Applicata e Tecnologia (Department of Applied Science and Technology), spoke at one of the festival’s panels on the theme ‘Farewell to Plastic’, presenting the Esperanto Doctoral Network and talking about the sustainable evolution of plastic.

esperanto mid-term meeting conference program

From June 17th to 20th 2024, the team of researchers and supervisors forming the Esperanto Doctoral Network will take part in the ESPS conference, in the beautiful location of the Palazzo dei Congressi in Stresa, Italy.

The European Symposium of Photopolymer Science aims to bring together the brightest minds from both academia and industry to collectively present and discuss the more recent innovations in fundamental issues as well as industrial innovations.

The meeting consists of seminars with topics addressing critical issues such as photochemistry, reaction kinetics, analytical methods, photoinitiator and monomer synthesis, structure-property relations, polymer processing, as well as applications.

The major aim of ESPS 2024 is to review the latest development, needs and issues on the thematic areas covered in general by emerging references of Chemical Engineering Science.
Topics that will be discussed at the meeting include (but are by no means limited to):

Topic I – Radical and Cationic Radiation Curing Processes

Topic II – Thiol-Ene Polymerizations

Topic III – Bio-based UV-Curable formulations

Topic IV – Polymerization Kinetics

Topic V – Advanced Materials and Applications

Topic VI – Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing

Topic VII – Hydrogels and Biomaterials

Topic VIII – Medical and Dental Materials

Within the framework of an European Marie Curies Doctoral Network (MSCA-DN) project called ESPERANTO, 13 PhD positions are available in different prestigious European Universities, including the Politecnico di Torino.

Gathering 8 universities and 8 non-academic partners, ESPERANTO will reach its objectives through 13 individual PhD projects addressing sustainable innovation, within an international and intersectoral research network of academic institutions and enterprises in the field of photopolymers and high-tech.

The selected PhD students will undertake projects aiming at improving the sustainability of photoinduced polymerisation and boosting the use of this technology in the industrial sector, to replace less sustainable processes.

Detailed information on these open positions and on the application procedure are reported on the Euraxess portal at the following link: https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/39845
